Taxonomists disagree on whether or not this is a variety of Spiraea betulifolia or should be considered its own species. When I obtained seeds, it was listed as Spiraea corymbosa. The Pennsylvania Natural Heritage Program has it under the latter, and lists this as S1 critically imperiled. These are seed grown, despite the fact that they’re normally found in large clonal populations. How dwarf is dwarf? This tops out at 3ft x 3ft. As you can see in the photo, it blooms on new wood, even on first year plants.
I’m new to this one and hoping to establish a population, but I’m sharing a few of the ones I’ve grown with you since they did fairly well. I don’t know much about this particular variety. Most information I’ve seen is specific to Spiraea betulifolia.
