Whorled Milkweed
$10.00 Read moreWho could believe in the prophecies … that the world would end this summer, while one milkweed with faith matured its seeds. — Henry David Thoreau
Aqua Tofana was the name of the legendary poison used in 17th century Italy, primarily used by women to end the men that owned them. Women at the time were property. There were no laws or protections from abuse, and “til death do you part” was taken literally. Someone had to go, and it wasn’t her.
If you learned of the poison garden in the UK and have been wanting to make a poison garden of your own, these are the plants I have available that would qualify for that design. It goes without saying, I’m not liable for anything you do with your plants or garden. While I joke around making poison gardens, it’s good to know which plants may warrant an immediate call to poison control.
Simply growing these plants in your garden won’t cause any harm. I’m not offering any of the Toxicodendron species. And many of these aren’t that toxic, or would require consuming a lot of them (or specific parts) to do any harm. Still, I wouldn’t add any of these to a wild foraged salad. Details for each are in the descriptions.
