Stiff Gentian

Description

native in southeastern PA

As biennials, you’d want to plant these this fall for blooms next year.

Agueweed hints at prior uses as herbal treatment for fevers/chills. Ague is an archaic word you’d only come across when reading historic first-hand accounts of daily life. Suffering from ague was pretty common. I really do not envy their suffering from illness before all our medical advances and understanding of germ theory – I’d probably be trying just about every single plant I heard might work. The alternative was death. If the plant killed you didn’t matter, you’d probably be dead anyway.

I’m not sure if there are any risks of toxicity with this species. Always research before consuming anything.
